Intro to mapping and geomatics

Coordinate frames, GDA2020, AUSCORS, and what a signed-off map has to defend. Photogrammetry on day 1. Handheld indoor SLAM on day 2.

  • Plan and capture a small photogrammetry block
  • Walk an interior with SHARE C1 or C1 Pro
  • Process an ortho, DSM and point cloud
  • Leave with a flight card, coverage checklist and sample outputs

LiDAR scanning

Three days covering mapping, handheld SLAM, then aerial LiDAR on Matrice with L2 or L3: plan, capture, classify, DTM and DSM.

  • When LiDAR is the right instrument versus photo or handheld
  • Altitude, speed, overlap, returns and IMU warm-up
  • Classify, accuracy report, export for CAD or GIS
  • Leave with a LiDAR sample and a one-page method note

Course

Is this a RePL or CASA course?
No. It is a mapping classroom for crews who already fly. We cover CASA-aware habits. We do not issue a licence and we do not claim CASA accreditation.
What is the difference between the two courses?
Intro to mapping and geomatics is two days: coordinate frames, photogrammetry, then handheld indoor SLAM. LiDAR scanning is three days, with aerial LiDAR on Matrice with L2 or L3 after that mapping block.
Is kit handover the same thing?
No. Setup and training on the kit you buy is included with hardware. Mapping Training is a public classroom with published dates. Buying a scanner does not use a course seat.

Dates

How do I pick a date?
Choose a course and a city, then a published Melbourne or Sydney date. If that date is full, join the waitlist or hold an open seat for 12 months.
Can I change date after I pay?
Yes, onto another published date of the same course, subject to seats. Tell us. The purchase stays valid 12 months.

Logistics

Do I need to bring an aircraft?
No. We fly teaching kit. Bring your own if it is current and you want it on the controls. Bring a laptop for processing.
