UASE Expo: hydrogen drones, new payload brands and the software layer worth watching

Floor notes from UASE Expo in Shenzhen, 21 to 23 May 2026. Hydrogen endurance is real on the stand. Refill logistics, payload brands and processing software are the questions that travel home.

UASE Expo ran in Shenzhen from 21 to 23 May 2026 (Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center, Futian). It is a China low-altitude and UAV trade floor, not an Australian procurement show. Treat everything below as what the aisle was selling, then ask what has a path here. Australian timing for hydrogen airframes is unannounced. Say that once.

Hydrogen: endurance on the stand, logistics on the job

Hydrogen cells were a draw because endurance is the one number lithium enterprise kits still lose on. A Matrice 400-class flight is still in the neighbourhood of an hour depending on payload. Hydrogen exhibitors were selling multi-hour jobs: long feeders, big leases, fewer battery swaps.

The constraint that actually matters for an Australian crew is not the cell on the poster. It is refill. A remote pad, a moving work front, or an emergency callout does not magically grow a hydrogen truck. Depot-return inspection can plan for it. Fly-in fly-out survey mostly cannot, not yet.

We are not quoting hydrogen airframes as a stock line. If long endurance is the genuine bottleneck on your route, we will say so and map it against lithium plus extra aircraft, a dock, or a wait. Demo minutes from Shenzhen are not a tender spec.

CASA-aware as always. Nothing on that floor is "approved" for your operation because it looked finished under halogen.

GDU Tech: their aircraft, their payloads

GDU Technology is an industrial UAV OEM: airframes in the S200 / S400E class, gimbals, a dock story, LiDAR of their own (PLI01). It is not a bag of clips that turn a Mini into a mapper. That is a different buying decision (new platform, new spares, new training) than adding a sensor to a Matrice you already fly.

We have not published an Australian field test and we do not list GDU on the store today. Watch the category. Do not migrate a DJI fleet on a booth demo.

Get3D: processing, not a new drone

Get3D Mapper is photogrammetry and mesh software (imagery in, DOM / DSM / OBJ-class products out, with a viewer alongside). That is the right problem: most crews already capture; they burn the week in AT and cleanup.

We have not run Get3D on a paid Mirrormapper job. It is not Landmapper (dock and farm operations) and it is not MapShare (browser delivery of a SHARE project). If you want a processing bake-off, say which camera and which deliverable. Until then it stays a name on the floor.

BY.TECH: already on the catalogue

BY.TECH (SD By Vision) is the one of these three we already put on Australian kits: specialised payloads, not a second aircraft OEM. Live examples include the LM20T methane detection system and the ST40 water sampler, scoped to Matrice 400-class fitment on quote. Their BYTECH software is the vendor's planning and device layer around those tools.

That is the software conversation we can have without inventing a partnership: payload, aircraft, AUSCORS, handover, export into the report you already owe the client.

What to do with a show like this

Hydrogen stays a watch item until refill is a line on your method statement. New OEM airframes stay a fleet decision, not an impulse SKU. Processing tools earn a bake-off or they stay a bookmark. Payloads that already have a handle on our store are the only ones we will spec this month.

Talk through the job if a corridor, a gas leak route, or a processing bottleneck is the actual reason you cared about Shenzhen. We will tell you what we can commission now.
