The two-package mine site: survey and inspection

Most productive mine sites need two distinct aerial capabilities running simultaneously: a mapping system for survey data and a thermal system for equipment inspection. These are different workflows with different drones, different operators and different deliverables.

The Matrice 4E RTK Mapping Bundle handles the survey side — stockpile volumes, pit wall change detection, access road condition surveys and haul road mapping. The Matrice 4T Inspection Bundle covers the inspection side — thermal anomalies on motors, bearings, switchgear, conveyors and high-voltage equipment.

Buying both bundles as a mine site solution saves significant cost versus building the configurations separately, and covers both critical functions with purpose-configured systems.


Autonomous site monitoring with Dock 3

Keeping personnel in active mining areas for repeat survey operations carries inherent risk. The Dock 3 Survey System removes this risk by automating the entire capture-recharge-upload cycle from a fixed dock location on the mine boundary.

Configured with the D-RTK 3 relay for centimetre positioning, ICOM ROIP for radio integration with the control room, AVSS parachute for BVLOS compliance and the Uavionix PingStation 3 for airspace awareness, the Dock 3 Survey System meets the regulatory requirements for uncrewed operations in most Australian mine site environments.

Frequently Asked Questions

The standard Matrice 4E is not IP rated. For active dust environments, the Matrice 4D (IP45) or 4D Survey Bundle is recommended. Both are certified for use in conditions involving dust, light rain and humidity.
With D-RTK 3 and the Matrice 4E's built-in RTK, stockpile volume accuracy is typically within ±1-2% of traditional survey methods for well-defined stockpiles on stable ground. Results depend on stockpile geometry and GNSS conditions.
Dock 3 BVLOS operations require a CASA approval — either a ReOC with BVLOS conditions or an exemption. Our team can advise on the most efficient approval pathway for your site and operational requirements.
