How Dock 4 works

From the 25-second swap to the desk in the office.

Ready in seconds

Dock 4 lifts out the battery that just landed and loads a charged one, so the aircraft doesn't sit through a recharge. Media keeps transferring during the swap, and the aircraft is back in the air in under 45 seconds.

Battery swap
Under 25 s, from the cover closing

The control room watches the feed with about 160 ms of latency. Video travels over the O4 Ground Station link and two 4G connections, so one weak signal doesn't drop the picture.

Built for the site

Dock 4 and Matrice 5TD both work from -40 °C to 50 °C. The dock is sealed to IP56 and brings the aircraft home in winds up to 12 m/s.

Rain

Dock 4 weighs 66 kg and uses the same 400 × 400 mm mounting holes as Dock 3. In Silent mode it runs under 60 dB.

Every Dock 4 installs with a DJI O4 Ground Station, which carries the video, RTK and network link. With more than one station on a site, the aircraft roams between them in flight and covers more ground than one station reaches.

Choosing a model

Which aircraft flies from Dock 4?
Matrice 5TD. It carries wide, medium tele, tele and thermal cameras on one aircraft.
What does Dock 4 do that Dock 3 doesn't?
It swaps the battery instead of charging the aircraft in place, so the next flight can launch in under 45 seconds. It also runs down to -40 °C against -30 °C for Dock 3, uses its spare batteries as backup power and takes RTK and transmission from an O4 Ground Station.

On the job

How fast is the battery swap?
25 seconds from the cover closing to a fresh battery in place, and under 45 seconds from touchdown to the next take-off. Up to 2 GB of footage offloads over Wi-Fi during the swap, at up to 80 MB/s.
How many batteries does it hold?
Three charged batteries in a four-bay compartment, with one bay kept free for the battery coming off the aircraft. Standby batteries are held at 95%, and two charge at once, 15 to 95% in 27 minutes at 25 °C.
What happens if mains power drops?
The compartment batteries become the backup supply, about 4.5 hours each, used one after another. With two or more batteries in the compartment, Dock 4 can still swap and launch. Aircraft charging and air conditioning wait until mains power returns.
What weather can it handle?
The dock is rated IP56 and the aircraft IP55, both from -40 °C to 50 °C. It operates in wind up to 12 m/s and rain up to 2 mm/h, at sites up to 5,000 m. The propellers use an anti-icing material.

Buying and delivery

Can we reuse our Dock 3 site?
The concrete base and mounting holes, yes: both docks use a 400 × 400 mm hole pattern. The power cable and RTK don't carry over. Dock 4 uses an LP25 cable, draws up to 2,000 W against 800 W for Dock 3, and takes RTK from the O4 Ground Station.
Does Dock 4 need an O4 Ground Station?
Yes. It carries the dock's video transmission, RTK base station and network link. Dock 4 powers it over PoE through one Ethernet cable, 1.5 to 80 m long, and it mounts high in an open spot with a clear line of sight to the dock.
What does setup involve?
The O4 Ground Station position is surveyed first with a Matrice 4 Series or Matrice 4D aircraft. We then set up the dock and station, calibrate RTK, bind the aircraft, load the batteries and fly the entry and exit route that guides every take-off and return. Training is included.

Data and software

Does it connect to our existing systems?
Yes, through FlightHub 2, run as public cloud, on your own servers or as an all-in-one appliance. OpenAPI and FlightHub Sync link third-party platforms, and DFR workflows push flight requests, live video and evidence into VMS, CAD and SCADA.
What network does the site need?
Ethernet at the O4 Ground Station, ideally gigabit, with more than 20 Mbps up and down (40 Mbps recommended) and latency of 100 ms or less. A DJI Cellular Dongle 2 on the station covers sites without Ethernet, and the aircraft's two 4G links merge with the O4 link.
Can we use Sub-2 GHz in Australia?
Yes. Australia is a supported region. Turn it on in Device Management and accept the liability acknowledgement.
