Choosing and buying

When does the Matrice 400 make sense over a Matrice 4E?
When the job needs a heavy payload, long endurance with that sensor on board, or a LiDAR accuracy spec the compact platform cannot meet. The M400 carries up to 6 kg, so the Zenmuse L3, P1 and H30T are all viable, at around 59 minutes of measured flight time with a real inspection payload fitted. The M4E still wins on cost per hectare for medium area orthos. Choose the M400 when the tender spec or the payload weight rules the smaller aircraft out.
Which payload should I pair with the M400: L3, P1 or H30T?
Match it to the deliverable. Zenmuse L3 for corridor LiDAR, forestry, mining and powerline work, where you want a colourised point cloud with survey grade vertical accuracy at altitude. Zenmuse P1 for full frame photogrammetry and large ortho blocks over long endurance. Zenmuse H30T when the billable output is visual plus thermal inspection with standoff zoom and a laser rangefinder. We spec the aircraft and the payload together and quote the full build against your tender rather than a catalogue pairing.
What is included when we buy the aircraft through Mirrormapper?
Payload calibration before handover, AUSCORS NTRIP configured on your account, a sample DJI Terra workflow set up against your deliverable type, and hands on training covering aircraft and payload. Warranty runs 12 months and sits under Australian Consumer Law, and the engineers who commissioned the system are the ones who answer when you call from site. The value is in the calibrated stack, not the airframe on its own.
Can we buy the M400 airframe on its own?
Yes, through the Aircraft Only tier: the airframe with RC Plus 2, WB37, propellers, dampers, case and tools. Be clear on what it is not. The M400 ships from DJI without flight batteries and without a charging station, so on its own it cannot fly. That tier is priced for operators adding an airframe to a fleet that already holds TB100 packs and a BS100 station, or replacing an aircraft against an existing spares pool. If this is your first M400, start at Ready to Fly, which adds three TB100 packs and the station. Every payload tier builds on that same flying spine.
Why do the M400 kits include three batteries?
Two TB100 packs fly the aircraft and the third keeps a charged set moving through the BS100, which charges three TB100 in sequence. On a corridor run or a mapping block that is the difference between a continuous morning and a wait at the charger. Crews flying a single short sortie can drop to two, and crews flying all day usually add a fourth. Tell us the mission profile during the spec conversation and we will size the set to it.
Do I need the payload and processing stack settled before I book a demo?
No. Tell us the tender spec or the deliverable you sell most, whether that is corridor LiDAR accuracy, ortho ground sample distance or a thermal inspection report, and we will fly the payload pairing that suits it. Most buyers know the job type well before they know the finished integration spec. Book a stack demo and we will process a sample output in your coordinate frame so you can judge the workflow and the data before you commit.
We are on the Matrice 350 RTK. Is the M400 upgrade worth it?
Upgrade when the M350 cannot carry the payload, cannot hold flight time with that sensor loaded, or cannot hit the accuracy spec your clients now ask for. The M400 adds a third gimbal connector for the L3, omnidirectional sensing with rotating LiDAR and mmWave radar, O4 Enterprise Enhanced transmission, an IP55 rating and roughly 59 minutes with an H30T class payload. If the M350 still wins the jobs you want at the spec you quote, keep flying it.

Performance and workflow

How long does it fly with a mapping or LiDAR payload on board?
Around 59 minutes, measured with an H30T fitted at sea level in forward flight. That covers a full morning corridor or mapping block without planning the sortie around the battery. Endurance drops with heavier combinations, altitude and wind, so we model flight time against your typical mission profile during the spec conversation. The number that matters is endurance with a billable sensor attached, not an empty airframe figure.
Do I still need ground control points with RTK on the M400?
For routine georeferencing, an RTK fixed solution through AUSCORS NTRIP covers it, and we configure that at handover. For tenders with a stated accuracy spec, independent check shots remain standard quality assurance. In GNSS challenged segments, or where the client asks for a network adjustment, a D-RTK 3 base or targeted ground control sits alongside the RTK workflow. Ground control is still good survey practice, and we map which path fits your deliverable during commissioning.
Can the M400 carry more than one sensor in one mission?
Yes. The platform supports multi payload configurations across the third gimbal connector, the dual lower mounts and E-Port V2 accessories. Common pairings are the L3 on the primary connector with a lighter secondary sensor, or the H30T alongside the S1 spotlight and V1 speaker for night public safety work. Total weight and centre of gravity limits apply, so we validate the combination against the mounting rules before your first paid job.
What does the data path look like from capture to client deliverable?
Field capture in DJI Pilot 2, processing in DJI Terra for orthos, digital surface models and LiDAR point clouds, then export into your CAD, BIM or GIS stack. We wire a sample Terra workflow during handover against the deliverable you actually invoice, whether that is a colourised point cloud, a full frame ortho or an inspection product. Landmapper is there if you want mapping outputs produced faster with less manual cleanup.
Can we merge M400 aerial data with handheld interior scans?
Yes. RTK georeferenced aerial capture from the L3 or P1 registers with SHARE C1 or C10 handheld SLAM in the same coordinate frame. Roofs and corridors come from the aircraft, plant rooms and under canopy detail come from the scanner. We configure both workflows at handover when you run aerial and ground capture on the same contract.

Compliance

Does buying an M400 mean we are CASA-approved to fly it?
No. We provide CASA-aware deployment guidance. Your organisation holds the operator certificate, the licensed remote pilots and the site specific risk assessment. We help with the paperwork for fleet and operational approvals when you are building a programme, and CASA grants the authorisations. Build the regulatory pathway into your rollout timeline alongside hardware delivery.
The M400 has ADS-B. Does that give us detect and avoid for BVLOS?
It gives you traffic awareness, which supports a safety case. It is a receiver, not an automated detect and avoid system, and the distinction matters when you write the concept of operations. Separation in beyond visual line of sight work is managed through the approved approach: segregated airspace, observers, procedures, and that awareness data feeding into them. We help you assemble those elements, and the hardware sits inside them rather than replacing them.

Support

What warranty and support do I get?
Twelve months of warranty backed by Australian Consumer Law, with phone and email support from the engineers who calibrated your payload and ran your handover. DJI Care Enterprise is available on top for accidental damage cover. This is a production aircraft, so we would rather diagnose a fault with you on the phone than have you waiting on an overseas repair queue.
What happens if something fails mid-contract?
Call us, and the call reaches the engineers who commissioned your kit. Most mission issues get sorted live on the phone. Hardware faults under warranty are repaired locally where the aircraft or payload allows it. If your operator changes, we run the training session again.
